It’s that time of year, the 30th Annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF). We’re members and we have our line-up of films, parties, and seminars set.
In an interesting move the festival’s opening and closing films are both documentaries. The venues are many and varied. (I’ll post tomorrow a list with images of all of them.) The festival prides itself on living-up to the “International” in its name.
And now here is my list of the films we will be watching:
March 1st
Twenty Feet from Stardom
(Opening Night Film – Olympia Theatre at the Gusman Center)

March 3rd
Magic Camp
(Regal Theatre South Beach)
_________
Casting By
(Tower Theatre)
Edwin is watching this one. I have a conflict with The Hypnotist. This is a tough call because of the subject matter of Casting By, but I am already very doc heavy this festival year.

The Hypnotist
(Olympia Theatre at the Gusman Center)

March 4th
Oma & Bella
(Miami Beach Cinematheque)

March 5th
The Hot Flashes
(Coral Gables Art Cinema)

Edwin will be watching this one by himself. I’ll be at the following film.
_________
Sagrada: The Mystery of Creation
(Tower Theatre)
___________________________
March 6th
Dark Blood
(Olympia Theatre at the Gusman Center)
This is the film I am most excited about. I was a big River Phoenix fan when he was alive, and I am very curious to see what his last film is about.

March 7th
Edificio Royal
(Tower Theatre)
___________________________
March 8th
The Artist & The Model
(Olympia Theatre at the Gusman Center)
___________________________
March 9th
Venus and Serena
(Closing Night Film – Olympia Theatre at the Gusman Center)
I’m curious about this one since Venus & Serena have removed their support of this documentary.
_________
Broken
(Regal South Beach Theatre)
___________________________
March 10th
Leviathan
(O-Cinema)
Based on the capsule in the program book I’m interested. Based on the trailer I’m not so sure.
_________
7 Boxes
(Regal South Beach Theatre)
___________________________
And there we have it. The only film in doubt of me watching is Leviathan. If I do watch it, then my film split will be six features and six docs. It should be a fun, but exhausting time. There will be many week nights of me rushing from work to the theatre. But that’s part of the fun.
